The overall look of this movie poster gives the impression that this is a comedy. The text used for the title is a thick, kind of bubble letter text which comes off as not that serious. The text at the bottom is a little less comical then the title but it still does not have a serious tone to it, especially with it saying work sucks. The bold red used for the text gives the image a look of intensity, which seems to correlate with how the one mans face looks. The only major color in this picture is the yellow of the post-its. The yellow also seems to give off the impression of something that is not very serious, especially since the post-its are covering a man. The rest of the picture is blank white empty space. This works with the title of the movie because it its just boring empty space and for some people that's how work feels. It also gives the impression that the two men are trapped at work, one is completely covered by a very common office supply and the other seems to be hiding from something behind the post it guy, maybe hoping to escape from work.
The first thing that strikes me when I see this movie poster is the yellow. Yellow is a color that is usually used to gain someone's attention. Yellow is the color of legal pads and post-it notes. Because of these common uses of yellow its connotation is somewhat altered to mundane. I see yellow and think of boring legal pads and post-it notes. The guy is covered in post-it notes. He has been overcome with the mundane, while being covered as such adds humor to the situation. The font is clearly used to show humor and that the movie will be funny. There is also a man peeking out from behind. His timidness is humorous. The phrase "work sucks" is also most commonly used in a humorous context. The briefcase, tie and the fact that both men are wearing glasses makes be feel the white-collar american stereotype.
Good points--I especially like Stephanie's observation about the white background as signifying the boring nature of office work and Anthony's observation about the guy covered in post-its as being "overcome by mundane"--very clever. Who's the guy in post-its, though? And why is Milton hiding behind him do you think?...
I dunno where to post this so I am posting it here.
The picture we created is supposed to show the emotion of indifference. It shows this by having two different colored triangles on the sides with a black line in the middle. There is a very large yellow circle on the top left circle. There is a vertical line on the right side and a brown base. At first glance there is a lot of things going on. It strikes an indifference in the audience because of all the different things going on. If we look at the text "How Pictures Work" the circle is a sign of comfort. At the same time there are two different triangles and those are signs of distress. Another noticeable feature in the picture is the colors. The colors are not consistent to anything. It is a mix between light and dark. Here we have so many things going on at once you can only think that it is indifferent. It doesnt know if it wants to be warm and comforting or if wants to be angry and sad.
