BLOG #5 Picture (T. McFadden)

  1. This poster looks like it has been painted and is not an actual picture. The lettering of the title is in red, which makes it stand out from the rest of the poster, so your eye is first drawn to the title. The red might indicate this movie contains romance and love, as well as blood, which could represent fight scenes. The man on the right of the poster is wearing black outfit with a black mask; this could mean that this man is trying to hide his true identify throughout this movie. He does not want others to know who he is when wearing his disguise. The couple on the other side can represent a romance going on in the movie. Their clothing is neutral that is why this could be the last thing your eye is drawn to in the poster. Finally, there is a name written in a light blue color that stands out. This is a name of an actor, who might be very popular. This name could have been written in a color that stands out so people can read who is in it and it can encourage them to watch this movie.

  2. Good comments on the redness. I think the color is up to many interpretations but agree that it is probably there for blood and romance. I agree that Zorro probably wants his identity concealed. It is interesting that one actor is singled out and listed in blue. Maybe its just the name; who is Tyrone Power anyway? You didn't comment on the cursive writing. Note that it is only used to spell Zorro. I think this is done because Zorro has more elegance and fanciness than most vigilantes like Batman, who probably writes with bold block letters.

  3. Interesting choice of movie poster. The juxtapositioning of the images is different than what we usually see today (one main image rather than the collage-type effect going on here). Tyrone Power was probably a major selling point at the time...
