Blog #9 - Flyer Redesign

Our angle was that there are good places to go in many places in New Mexico. It is well-known that NMDOT advertises in magazines whose readers are well-off. As a result, we decided to focus on the landscape and on nature. It is also noted that green chile is readily available to symbolize the abundance of good food. The demographic is also likely to be older in age so we decided not to use sharp shapes and bright colors.

This poster would be seen in National Geographic Travel magazine and in Conde Nast magazine, which is a high-end travel magazine. This poster could also be seen in other travel magazines. The people that will see this are those that are interested in traveling or taking a vacation. I say this because it is a tourism flyer for the state of New Mexico. These people are most likely adults because they are more likely able to afford to go on a trip. Since these people will be flipping through a magazine, this ad will have to stand out from the rest of the pages. I think this ad would stand out and people would not ignore it. I think this because instead of just having a plain map of New Mexico there are also pictures of different cities, such as Carlsbad, Santa Fe and others. I think the pictures located in the map are very unique and for those that like nature, they would stop and admire them. This could cause them to want to take a vacation to New Mexico. It is also not like your average ad of vacation spots because it shows cities all over the state instead of just one location.

In the pictures we chose to put on the map we made sure they would fit in with the map they were on and they showed what New Mexico was about. We only use a little bit of text because we wanted to focus more on showing what you could see in New Mexico instead of writing about it. The Text we chose was simple and direct. We wanted to make it stand out on the turquoise background. We chose the turquoise color because that also has to do with New Mexico. We mainly showed images of natural New Mexican places, like the mountains, river and caverns. We also wanted to show some other things that New Mexico was known for like chile and for the religious a picture of the Santuario church as other reasons someone might like to visit. We wanted to try to get across that New Mexico had a lot to offer and a lot to see. The tone is a little sophisticated with many of the images used and should appeal to people who see it in a Conde Nast magazine. There is not much proximity with this ad, the only text we have is at the bottom next to the logo. Since the text is next to the logo it makes sure that it is connected to the rest of the flyer.

The main objective is to present them with a flier that will grab their attention and make them want to come and visit New Mexico. What we have done is set up a flier that has the shape of New Mexico. We have put pictures of the attractions that can be viewed all throughout the state. The only texts that we have in the flier is the NMDOT logo and the sentence that says "prepare to be amazed." I think that this being the only text in the whole flier makes it in to a mystery. I am asking myself questions like, why is it amazing? I want to go there to see why. I also see the beautiful pictures that give me a little peek into what is so amazing. The alignment is a little off because of the shape of New Mexico itself, its not exactly the most proportionate state! But the flier does a good job in working with the shape of the state and we see repetition in the shape of the pictures on the state.
