Group Member #1: Our main consideration in developing our design for the New Mexico department of tourism was effective expression of southwestern style. Our audience here are well off people. It is well known that there are many well off people on the East Coast. These people see the southwest as exotic, a feeling that is complemented by the handsome bird. The bird also symbolizes the need to be on the get go as these birds are notoriously fast. It is also eating some sort of lizard, instilling the idea of an exotic meal in the well off audience.
Group Member #2: The company's ethos would be somewhat sophisticated based on the types of magazines it advertises in. This client would want to show how it will cater to the more wealthy people. Our group wanted to show something a little sophisticated and that would represent New Mexico. the road runner is a very good image to try to represent New Mexico because it is the state bird, since the image is of a more realistic Roadrunner instead of something really cartoony it looks more sophisticated. The realistic Roadrunner shows that the New Mexico Department of Tourism should be taken seriously. The text to us looks New Mexican and they style of the font is a little more playful. The font with the image communicates that if you go with NMDOT then you will have both a high end trip and have fun at the same time.
Group Member #3: Our group's logo has an image of a roadrunner and the word NM DOT. We placed the word NM DOT next to the roadrunner. The company we created the design for was the New Mexico Department of Tourism. We used their abbreviation because it was a shorter way of communicating the same idea; it also looked for professional and those looking in a Conde Naste and National Geographic Travel magazines, they would understand NM DOT to represent the NM Department of Tourism. In our logo we added an image of a roadrunner. We wanted an image that represents New Mexico, making it easier to recognize this image as coming from New Mexico. Roadrunners can be found in New Mexico and it is our sate bird. The roadrunner also appears to be in the desert. It also looks to be eating some sort of insect or small reptile. New Mexico is known to be somewhat of a desert. Both the wording, NM DOT, and image of the roadrunner allow those reading the travel magazines will be able to recognize which state the advertisement is for.
Group Member # 4 I think that at first glance the readers will not understand what this logo is for. We put a roadrunner for the symbol because we thought that most people would recognize that as a sign for New Mexico. I do not think they will know that it is for the department of tourism. I think that if the name New Mexico Department of Tourism was in the actual logo, it would make it more clear. The letter NMDOT is nicely laid out. It is in text that is legible at first glance. The roadrunner is drawn very clear, and the desert in the background is noticeable as well. The image is not too cluttered and not too concise. The layout itself is very aligned and the readers will have no problems seeing the whole image.
