The picture my group chose was of a well dressed man watering a healthy tree which appears to be supporting the world. It is important to note that the man is watering the tree with dollar symbols as well as small drops of water. I interpret this to mean that the world is supported, however indirectly, by liquid assets. I also noted that the globe is focused on the Americas, and as a result we represented the Americas with triangles. We chose to represent the man with several squares because he is of the business type and seems to value money. The tree was created with soft curves to allude to its illustrious but corrupt nature.

ReplyDeleteThe first criterion I will talk about is color. We used a white piece of poster board as our background because that was the background of the image. Then we used blue and green to represent the world. Everyone relates the color blue to the ocean or water and green to represent the land on the world. Next, we chose black to represent the man, not because he is of color but to represent his business attire. Black represents something serious and a business suit means this man is serious. We also used green to represent money.
The next criterion is shapes. The world is in a circular form because people associate the world with a circle more than they do an oval. The tree was a rectangle, placed vertically on the page to make it seem long. The man has rectangles for arms and legs. The position of the legs makes him look as if he is just standing there and doing nothing else. The Americas on the world have edges making them appear sharp and powerful.
The final criterion is composition. The world is large in comparison to the tree and man, showing its importance. The watering can is placed in a diagonal, giving the idea that water is being poured out of it. The man’s arm is also at an angle, giving it the sense of motion, watering the tree.
Group Member #1: The emotion that we chose to depict was indifference. Our process in creating this image was kind of all over the place which is why I think we decided the emotion was indifference. We stared to try to depict happiness and love then it somehow turned into indifference. The other groups’ response was mixed; they thought it was either confusion or indifference. I think we could have included a lot more of the different shapes and colors or just have one black triangle and the yellow circle instead of the two triangles to show how it really is indifferent by having the circle and triangle on opposing sides of the picture.
ReplyDeleteGood job on your discussion, folks. I really liked your emotion picture--I thought the idea behind it was well conceived. Also you did a good job recreating the picture above with just construction paper and shapes.
